Michael Burkett, Director of Bands
Michael Burkett is the Director of Bands at Groves High School and Berkshire Middle School. Michael received his Music Education Degree from Michigan State University where he also received a Minor in Jazz Studies. He is currently working on his Master’s Degree at MSU. As a performer Michael plays the trumpet where he has had the opportunity to play in the Wind Symphony, Honors Brass Quintet, and the Jazz Orchestras at Michigan State University. At Groves High School Michael instructs the Concert Band, Symphony Band, Jazz Band and the Falcon Marching Band. He also instructs the Sixth Grade and Eighth Grade bands and the Jazz Band at Berkshire Middle School. In his free time he enjoys barbecuing, playing ping pong, and spending times with friends and family.

Brian Stukey, Percussion Instructor
Brian Stukey is the Drumline Instructor for Groves High School. He is currently on staff at Groves High School in the science department where he teaches AP Physics, Physics, Intro Physics and Astronomy. Brian earned a B.S. in Physics and B.S. in Mathematics from Michigan State University. After completing his degrees, he earned his teaching certificate from MSU and later returned to MSU to earn a Masters of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum. Brian had the opportunity to be a part of the Spartan Marching Band as a member of the MSU Drumline where he marched from 2000-2003. He also had the opportunity to perform with the MSU Competition Drumline in 2002 and 2004 at Percussive Arts Society’s International Convention. Brian has been instructing high school drumlines since the summer of 2001. Before instructing at Groves, Brian instructed drumlines at Adrian High School, Clarenceville High School and Grand Ledge High School. Brian works at Groves with his wife, Sarah. Brian and Sarah have three children; Landon, Adrian and Norah.
Sarah Stukey, Marching Band Instructor
Sarah Stukey serves as the Groves Marching Band Field Coordinator. She attended Michigan State University where she played Tenor Saxophone in the Spartan Marching Band for 3 years. Sarah graduated in 2007 with a major in Biology and a minor in Integrated Science. After student teaching for a year in Lansing Public Schools, she earned her teaching certificate from Michigan State University Teacher Education Program and is currently completing her Masters in Teaching and Curriculum with a focus on Student Psychology at MSU. She teaches Biology and Environmental Science at Saline High School. Sarah lives in Saline, MI with her husband, Brian and their three children: Landon, Adrian and Norah. Her hobbies include raising chickens, going up north, hunting, camping and Tae Kwon Do.
